In a remarkable turn of events, Essam El-Hadari, the Egyptian goalkeeper, seems to be unfamiliar with the concept of retirement. At the age of 40, after concluding his contract with Sudanese club El-Merreikh Omdurman, the 2013 champions, El-Hadari is embarking on a new challenge.
Dubbed “The Great Dam” by Egyptians, El-Hadari has defied conventional expectations by signing a fresh 3-year professional contract. The seasoned goalkeeper, renowned for his stints with Ahly, FC Sion, and the Egyptian national team, where he secured victories in the CAN tournaments of 1998, 2006, 2008, and 2010, has now committed to Wadi Degla club in the Egyptian Premier League for the next three seasons.
