Despite high expectations for the Egyptian club Al-Ahly, Guanghzou Evergrande triumphed with a 2-0 victory. Elkeson scored in the 48th minute, followed by Muriqui in the 66th minute. Al-Ahly made efforts but was unable to score. Guangzhou Evergrande, in its first participation, will now face Bayern Munich on December 17 in the semi-finals. Marcello Lippi, the Italian coach, has been instrumental in the success of the Chinese club since signing a contract in 2012, guiding them to multiple championships.
