Hossam Hassan, the head coach of the Egyptian national team, has extended an invitation to three overseas-based players to join the national team camp in March.
This decision comes ahead of Egypt’s participation in the “UAE Cup,” scheduled from March 22nd to 26th, where they will face Tunisia, Croatia, and New Zealand.
This marks Hassan’s debut mission leading the Pharaohs after succeeding Portuguese coach Roy Vitoria.
The trio of players includes Mohamed Sherif, Sam Morsy, and Tarek Hamed, who were previously omitted from the squad during the African Cup of Nations, where Egypt exited in the second round after facing defeat against the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Mohamed Sherif, who plays as a forward for Al-Khaleej Club in Saudi Arabia, Sam Morsy, a midfielder with Ipswich Town in England, and Tarek Hamed, a midfielder for Damac Club in Saudi Arabia, have been reinstated in Hassan’s plans for the national team camp.
Hassan emphasized that the selection is based solely on merit, stressing that the door to the national team remains open for players who demonstrate dedication and strong performances on the field, including the aforementioned trio, despite Hamed’s previous decision to retire from international duty.
The coach affirmed that if Sherif, Morsy, and Hamed maintain their strong performances for their respective clubs leading up to the national team camp in the UAE, they will undoubtedly secure spots in the final squad for Egypt’s upcoming crucial World Cup qualifiers against Burkina Faso and Equatorial Guinea in June.
