In memory of Nelson Mandela, ten gong strokes were announced by American boxing promoter Don King before the main fight of a boxing event in Neubrandenburg. Don King, the renowned boxing promoter, praised Mandela as a fabulous man who had shown what could be achieved against apartheid. The gongs preceded the fight between American boxer Marcus Oliveira and German Jürgen Brähmer for the vacant WBA light heavyweight title. The tribute took place during Mandela’s national funeral at the Soccer City Stadium in Soweto, attended by numerous Heads of State.
