The last centenary congress of the International Fencing Federation in Paris admitted Ghana, along with Samoa, into the institution. This marked Ghana’s entry as the 29th member federation of the African Fencing Confederation. The congress also designated Kazan and Moscow in Russia as hosts for the world fencing championships in 2014 and 2015. Moreover, Leipzig, Germany, and Doha, Qatar, submitted bids to host the World Championships in 2017. The 129 national federations in attendance discussed topics related to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
