Jean Fernandez has resigned from his position as coach of Montpellier following their 0-2 defeat against Lorient during the 16th day of Ligue 1. This decision comes after Montpellier president Louis Nicollin expressed regret over hiring Fernandez. At a press conference, Fernandez confirmed his resignation, stating, “In the interest of the club and the team, I have decided to stop.” He mentioned feeling the weight of criticism and believed it was better to step down for the benefit of the club. According to reports, Rolland Courbis is set to replace Fernandez. Courbis, who had a successful stint with USM Alger, is considered one of the prominent coaches of the 2013 season.
