After securing victory in the Confederation Cup Trophy against TP Mazembe last Saturday, Ruud Krol declared his departure from the Sfaxi club. Following his resignation, he clarified his decision, stating, “For a straightforward reason: I am a football coach, not a financier.” He elaborated during an interview with Jeune Afrique, explaining that his role is centered around the field – preparing matches, overseeing training, and making sporting decisions. However, he emphasized that handling players’ financial issues is the responsibility of the club’s leadership. Krol expressed frustration over the frequent occurrence of players approaching him with salary payment concerns, which detracted from his enjoyment of the role. He revealed, “Almost every day, there are players who come to see me with financial problems because their salaries have not been paid. They are upset because they don’t receive their money every month… And by having to deal with these problems, it spoiled my enjoyment. This is why I resigned.” The decision took the leaders of the Tunisian champion club by surprise, as Krol informed them post the final, choosing not to disclose it before the second leg. He concluded by stating that the timing was not appropriate to share his decision earlier. Ruud Krol previously led the Carthage Eagles in the two play-off matches for the Brazil 2014 World Cup.
