Ahmed Shobier, former goalkeeper for Al Ahly and the Egyptian national team, has shed light on the journey of Hossam Hassan, the current head coach of the Egyptian national team, into the realm of coaching, eventually leading him to coach the Pharaohs.
“Hossam Hassan is a product of Captain El-Gohary. He is his spiritual son.
For those who do not know, Hossam Hassan initially entered the coaching field under the guidance of Captain Mahmoud El-Gohary,” Shobier stated.
Shobier continued, “Captain El-Gohary was coaching the first team at Al Masry Club when he was approached to coach the Egyptian national team.
However, during that time, there was a revolution in Port Said. Captain El-Gohary sat with Mr. Sayed Metwally and told him, ‘I have the new coach for you.'”
“El-Gohary told Sayed Metwally, ‘I will bring someone who will become a big deal in coaching,’ and he brought Captain Hossam Hassan to coach Al Masry.
This conversation, by the way, is from Captain El-Gohary, may he rest in peace, with me,” Shobier added.
The insights provided by Shobier illuminate the mentoring relationship between El-Gohary and Hassan, highlighting the pivotal role El-Gohary played in shaping the coaching career of Hossam Hassan, a figure now central to Egyptian football as the head coach of the national team.
