Following Tunisia’s objections against Joel Matip and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, Cameroon has submitted the documentation for both players to FIFA to substantiate their origins. The Cameroonian Football Federation’s Standardization Committee secretary general, Tombi Roko Sidiki, stated that Tunisia contested the nationality of the players based on their use of German passports, arguing that this automatically revoked their Cameroonian nationality under Cameroonian law. Sidiki clarified that Tunisians were mistaken as Cameroonian law allows individuals born to Cameroonian parents to automatically acquire Cameroonian nationality. He emphasized that the players, being born to Cameroonian fathers, are Cameroonians by law. Furthermore, Cameroon intends to file a complaint against Tunisia for having a player who is not Tunisian but was born in Germany and trained at the Hamburg center alongside Choupo-Moting.
