Things are not going well for England at their Wembley fortress. Following a 0-2 defeat to Chile on Friday, the Three Lions faced another setback on Tuesday in a friendly match against Germany, losing 1-0.
The sole goal of the game was netted by Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker. Positioned alone in the heart of the English defense, he successfully converted a cross from Toni Kroos in the 39th minute.
Despite dominating possession throughout the match (65%), England failed to mount a comeback in the second half. Roy Hodgson continues to search for his optimal starting XI, and the matches on Friday and Tuesday did little to help him in that quest. Meanwhile, Germany, even without Lahm, Ozil, Schweinsteiger, and Neuer, showcased their strength and prevailed over their opponent.
