Burkina Faso’s national football team arrived in Blida for the return match of the 2014 World Cup play-offs against Algeria. Despite arriving late at 1:30 AM local time, a special welcoming committee, including officials from the Algerian Football Federation, the media, and many Algerian supporters, awaited them at the airport. There were some initial misunderstandings with the Algerian authorities, as the Burkina Faso players initially refused to board the buses provided by the host country. Eventually, the team headed to their hotel in the city center of Blida. While the players refrained from speaking to the press, the coach and members of the federation did provide statements. Throughout the journey, Algerian fans continued to show their support through singing and the use of firecrackers.
