In a friendly match held this Saturday in Belgium, Japan and the Netherlands, both already secured spots in the upcoming World Cup, played to an entertaining 2-2 draw, delighting their supporters.

Initially, the Oranje dictated the pace against Japan, showcasing their dominance with Rafael van der Vaart netting a goal in the 13th minute. Exploiting a defensive lapse, Van der Vaart skillfully lobbed the Japanese goalkeeper.

Arjen Robben extended the lead for the Netherlands six minutes before the first-half whistle. Assisted by Van der Vaart, the Bayern striker executed his trademark right hook followed by a curved left shot, leaving the Japanese goalkeeper, Nishikawa, with no chance. The score stood at 2-0.

However, the resilient Japanese squad capitalized on their opponent’s momentary lapse in concentration. Just before halftime, Osaka, assisted by Hasebe, narrowed the deficit. Returning from the break, Japan leveled the score at 2-2 in the 60th minute, courtesy of Keisuke Honda. He completed a splendid team effort, exploiting the Dutch defense overwhelmed by the swift one-touch play of the Japanese.

It’s worth noting that the Dutch team played without the injured Robin Van Persie.

Looking ahead, in further preparation for the upcoming Brazilian World Cup, Japan is set to face Belgium on Tuesday, while the Netherlands will take on Colombia.
