Anticipated changes are expected to occur within the roster of Morocco’s senior national football team during the upcoming preparatory camp in March, marking the team’s first appearance following their disappointment in the previous edition of the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, where they were eliminated in the round of 16 after a defeat to South Africa with a score of 2-0.
According to informed sources cited by “Hesport,” national team coach Walid Regragui has decided to provide opportunities for some new faces to join the senior team, following recent communications with them, aiming to build a competitive team for the future.
The same source clarified that Regragui is seeking to achieve balance within the “Atlas Lions” squad with a good age distribution across all positions.
This strategy aims to ensure that the younger players gain sufficient experience to take on leadership roles, thus avoiding the “mistakes” encountered during the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
Furthermore, Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, has reportedly reached an agreement with Regragui, emphasizing the current period’s importance for the technical staff of the national team to finalize the list of dependable players for the future, given the various challenges ahead.
Walid Regragui is preparing to unveil the national team’s roster in readiness for the upcoming preparatory camp, which is expected to include two friendly matches to be announced later.
It’s worth noting that “The Atlas Lions” are exempt from participating in the qualifiers for the next Africa Cup of Nations, which will be hosted by the Kingdom in 2025.
