WC 2014/ PORTUGAL-SWEDEN: 0-0 AT THE BREAK!

The highly anticipated first half of the Portugal vs. Sweden match concluded with a score of 0-0, as neither Cristiano Ronaldo nor Zlatan Ibrahimovic showcased their exceptional talents. The Luz stadium witnessed a physically intense encounter, marked by fierce duels between the two teams.

The opening opportunity arose in the 5th minute when Portugal’s Meireles delivered a deep pass to Moutinho in the area. Despite a skillful dribble past Isaksson, Moutinho was unable to convert the chance into a goal. Sweden responded promptly with Elmander’s dangerous cross from the right, narrowly missing Rui Patricio’s post.

In the 16th minute, Portugal earned a free-kick after a foul on Cristiano Ronaldo by Elm, but the ensuing attempt was thwarted by the defensive wall. The match saw back-and-forth action, with Sweden gaining a free-kick in the 22nd minute, skillfully executed by Kallstrom but narrowly missing the target.

Despite Portugal’s dominance with 63% possession, they struggled to find the back of the net. Postiga, Nani, Ronaldo, and even Pepe attempted shots from corners and free-kicks, but their efforts were in vain.

The defensive blocks of both teams remained solid, limiting space and opportunities. While Portugal besieged the Swedish camp, they failed to capitalize on their numerous chances. Ronaldo and Ibrahimovic, in particular, delivered somewhat disappointing performances in the first half. As the teams head into the second half, there is anticipation for a potential shift in the dynamics of the match.
