Amidst the chaos surrounding the election of a new president for the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), concerns about the state of football in the country are deepening. As the host for the 2015 African Cup of Nations, each FIFA international window becomes crucial for the Moroccan national team, which is deprived of qualifiers.
The unease among the executives of the Atlas Lions has been exacerbated by the decision not to take advantage of the November FIFA window. Captain of the team, Medhi Benatia, expressed his frustration on Twitter, criticizing the leaders for missing the opportunity for friendly matches. He lamented, “When I see all the international players joining their selection and we in Morocco allow ourselves to snub a FIFA date. It’s sad. The next CAN will arrive quickly and I am afraid that the scenario will happen again… What frustration! Morocco deserves a real team!”
Coach Rachid Taoussi had previously mentioned a friendly match against Finland in the program, but this was possibly before the election of Faouzi Lekjaa as the new president of FRMF.
