February 14, 2024, at the Fecofa conference room in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) coach Sébastien Desabre revealed an ambitious project aimed at revitalizing local football in the country.
Building on the positive momentum generated by the Leopards’ commendable performance in the recent Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Desabre is determined to leave a lasting impact on Congolese football.
The coach presented the comprehensive details of his vision to football authorities, shedding light on the strategic initiatives he intends to implement.
Addressing the media, Desabre emphasized his commitment to actively engage with local football development.
He highlighted recent discussions with the National Technical Director (DTN) as part of the collaborative efforts to explore avenues for advancing football at the grassroots level in the DRC.
“In my recent meeting with the DTN, we discussed potential strategies that would facilitate the implementation of our vision at the grassroots level.
We are currently in the process of identifying a suitable date to conduct a training program involving local and African players.
This initiative aims to reevaluate these athletes within the framework of the A and A selection,” Desabre articulated.
Reflecting on the Leopards’ performance in the last AFCON in Ivory Coast, Desabre expressed immense pride in the accomplishments of his team.
The coach, along with his coaching staff and players, celebrated their contribution to elevating the DRC’s standing on the continental stage.
“We are extremely proud — myself, the staff, and the players — of having positioned the DRC at the forefront of African football.
This journey has been a testament to our collective dedication and the resurgence of the DRC’s footballing prominence,” Desabre conveyed.
As the coach’s vision takes shape, the football community eagerly anticipates the unfolding of Desabre’s strategic plan, with hopes of witnessing a rejuvenated and competitive landscape for Congolese football.
