Relebohile Mofokeng helps Royale Union Saint-Gilloise return to Jupiler Pro League summit

Relebohile Mofokeng came off the bench to help Royale Union Saint-Gilloise secure a crucial 1-0 victory over Genk and move back to the top of the Jupiler Pro League.

The South African forward was rested from the starting line-up after playing 86 minutes in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday and beginning each of the club’s previous five league matches.

Royale Union Saint-Gilloise’s match against Genk remained goalless until Mofokeng was brought on after 60 minutes.

His introduction added greater urgency to the USG attack, and he went close to making an immediate impact when his effort was saved.

Ross Sykes then broke the deadlock in the 76th minute, scoring the only goal of the game to give Royale Union Saint-Gilloise all three points.

The result lifted USG back above Club Brugge in the league standings after Brugge were held to a 1-1 draw by Anderlecht.

Royale Union Saint-Gilloise now lead Club Brugge by one point, having collected 29 points from 11 matches. Their record includes nine wins and two draws.
