Senegal star Krepin Diatta finds himself suspended by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for four matches, two of which are suspended.

Following his post-match comments after Senegal’s loss to Ivory Coast in the Africa Cup of Nations round of 16.

The Teranga Lions were eliminated from the tournament by the hosts after losing 5-4 on post-match penalty shootouts at the Stade Charles Konan Banny in Yamoussoukro.

Expressing frustration with refereeing decisions, particularly a contentious penalty call, Diatta accused the officials of corruption, declaring;

“You’ve killed us, you’re corrupt! Keep your African cup. I’m sorry, but it’s ridiculous. I’m really sorry, but they’ve killed our competition there.”

The CAF disciplinary committee responded with a four-match suspension, with two games deferred and a USD16,000 fine.

This renders Diatta ineligible for Senegal’s upcoming two competitive matches.

Despite his outburst, Ivory Coast clinched the championship, triumphing over Senegal 5-4 in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw.

The victory secured Ivory Coast’s third Africa Cup of Nations title.

Diatta’s outspoken critique adds a contentious chapter to the tournament, shedding light on the tensions and frustrations simmering beneath the surface, even in the face of intense competition.
