Mamelodi Sundowns welcome Algeria’s USM Alger to Loftus Versfeld on Sunday for the CAF Super Cup, with kick-off scheduled for 15:00.
The recently dethroned African champions are making their final CAF appearance of the season after being eliminated in the preliminary stage of the Champions League. Victory would give their supporters a much-needed reason to celebrate.
Fans have been arriving at the Loftus Stadium precinct, which has become increasingly busy ahead of the afternoon kick-off. The match is being played on a pitch described as being in immaculate condition.
Sundowns supporters, young and old, have turned the occasion into a family affair as they gather to back the club against the Algerian visitors.
USM Alger fans have been allocated a separate section of the stadium, where security has been strengthened. There have previously been several incidents of spectator misbehaviour involving Algerian supporters at the venue.
Video assistant referees are also in attendance for the fixture. “Someone tell sports minister Gayton McKenzie,” was the remark made about VAR being present.
