USM Alger hold a 2-1 advantage over Mamelodi Sundowns at half-time in an entertaining CAF Super Cup final.
The Algerian side made a fast start, taking the lead in the fourth minute when Z. Draoui finished after being found by Khaldi.
Mamelodi Sundowns enjoyed most of the possession and spent long periods pressing in the USM Alger half, but their defensive organisation left them vulnerable to counter-attacks.
Despite being tested by the intensity of the final, USM Alger remained highly efficient in front of goal and used their opportunities to control the contest.
The “Brazilians” drew level in the 25th minute through Rayners, who converted a penalty shortly after being introduced.
However, the equaliser did not lead to a sustained turnaround for the South African side. Radouani restored USM Alger’s lead in the 37th minute.
The statistics from the opening 45 minutes underline the contrast between Sundowns’ dominance of the ball and USM Alger’s greater threat in the final third.
Mamelodi Sundowns have enjoyed 75% possession and produced a series of attacking spells, but USM Alger have been the more dangerous side.
