Lille have extended Hamza Igamane’s contract until June 2031, reaffirming their support for the Morocco international as he continues his recovery from a serious knee injury that has kept him out of action for 10 months. The club confirmed the new deal on 7 November.
Lille president Olivier Letang said the renewal was intended to demonstrate the club’s belief in the 23-year-old forward and its commitment to his recovery.
“It was important to us to show Hamza, through this contract extension, the immense confidence we have in him,” Letang said. He added that Lille would continue to pay close attention to the player’s health and wellbeing, while expressing his belief that Igamane would return to his best level after his lengthy absence.
Igamane made a strong impression during his first six months with Lille. The Lion of the Atlas scored nine goals in 18 appearances in all competitions after joining the club, providing the basis for the confidence now placed in him.
The attacker is expected to return to collective training after the November international break. That will represent an important step in his rehabilitation before he can begin planning a return to competitive football.
