Bull targeting professional football return with Grassy Park United

Kiyaam Bull is determined to return to the professional game after moving through the semi-professional ranks with Grassy Park United in the Western Cape.

The former Cape Town Spurs defender is currently playing in the ABC Motsepe League’s Second Division, but remains focused on helping his side secure promotion while working towards a return to the professional ranks.

Bull, 27, said the decline of professional football structures in Cape Town had made opportunities increasingly scarce for players attempting to build careers in the game.

“You know it’s a bit difficult not having so many opportunities in Cape Town anymore,” Bull told KickOff.

“Not just for me, but for every aspiring footballer. All I can do is put my best foot forward at all times, keep my body in shape and put in the extra work, especially when nobody is around.”

He acknowledged that maintaining his motivation during difficult periods had been one of the biggest challenges.

“I think that’s the hardest part of it all, having the mindset to keep going even when things are not going your way,” he said.

“But like I said, I will always put my best foot forward and leave the rest to Allah. God-willing, Inshallah, we will gain promotion and be back in professional football.”

Bull began his football journey in 2015 after joining the Ajax Cape Town academy from the Old Mutual Academy.

During his time with Ajax Cape Town, he represented the club at a number of junior international tournaments and was included in its MultiChoice Diski Challenge squad.

The defender later spent time with Black Leopards and La Masia in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, adding experience at professional level before returning to the semi-professional game.

He is now working under Grassy Park United manager Andrew Pequeno as the club attempts to earn promotion.

Despite the challenges facing players in the region, Bull remains concentrated on his performances and physical condition, believing that continued hard work can give him another opportunity in professional football.

For now, his immediate objective is to help Grassy Park United progress, while keeping alive his ambition of playing at the professional level again.
