FOOTBALL MOROCCO: MANY REPORTS, FIGHTS AND 2 P.M. FOR A NEW PRESIDENT!

Fouzi Lekjaa as the new president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has been a challenging and controversial process. The lengthy duration of the election, spanning almost 14 hours, and the reported lack of adherence to FIFA’s ethical and fair play standards raise concerns about the transparency and fairness of the proceedings.

The reported incidents of fights, spats, and verbal aggression among delegates during the assembly are certainly not in line with the principles of ethical conduct expected in sports governance. The decision to co-opt some of the rivals into the elected office in an effort to promote reconciliation within the Moroccan football community indicates a recognition of the need for unity.

One of the highlighted priorities is the appointment of a new coach. While Rachid Taoussi is mentioned as currently holding the position, there seems to be a consensus that he might not be the right person to lead the Atlas Lions to success, particularly recalling the missed opportunity for coronation in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) held in the Kingdom.

The challenges faced during this election process and the subsequent efforts to bring together different factions within Moroccan football underscore the importance of promoting transparency, ethical behavior, and unity in football administration to ensure the growth and success of the sport in the country. The appointment of a new coach will also be a critical decision in shaping the future trajectory of Moroccan football.
