Jeremie Frimpong open to Liverpool exit as Al-Hilal emerge as potential destination
Jeremie Frimpong could be heading for an early departure from Liverpool, with the Dutch defender reportedly open to a move to Saudi Arabia amid interest from Al-Hilal.
According to Saudi media outlet Winwin, the 25-year-old has been offered to Al-Hilal as the Saudi Pro League club considers strengthening its defensive options ahead of the upcoming transfer window.
Frimpong only joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2025 in a deal worth approximately €40 million.
The Netherlands international was brought in following Trent Alexander-Arnold’s departure to Real Madrid, with Liverpool viewing him as an attacking option capable of filling the right-back position.
However, his spell at Anfield has been disrupted by injuries and inconsistent performances.
The defender made 35 appearances across all competitions during his first season, including 21 outings in the Premier League, but has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter.
His latest setback came against Brentford on October 17, when he entered the match at half-time but suffered a muscular injury just minutes later. He has not featured since.
According to the reports, Frimpong is now considering a fresh challenge in Saudi Arabia, although neither Liverpool nor Al-Hilal has confirmed negotiations.
Frimpong’s difficult international situation
The defender has also experienced disappointment at international level after being left out of the Netherlands squad for the 2026 World Cup.
National team coach Ronald Koeman reportedly cited performance-related reasons for his omission, adding to an increasingly difficult period for the former Bayer Leverkusen star.
Frimpong previously enjoyed considerable success in Germany, becoming an important member of the Leverkusen side that won the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal during the 2023/24 campaign.
He also helped the club secure the German Super Cup in 2024.
Al-Hilal could offer Frimpong a fresh start
A potential move to Al-Hilal would give the Dutchman an opportunity to revive his career away from European football.
The Saudi club have previously been linked with several high-profile European defenders as they look to strengthen their squad.
However, Frimpong remains under contract with Liverpool until June 2030, meaning any potential transfer would require an agreement between the clubs.
For now, his future remains uncertain, with the reported interest from Al-Hilal adding another dimension to his situation at Anfield.
