Barcelona closely monitor Jesse Bisiwu’s progress as youngster awaits first-team opportunity
Barcelona’s first-team coaching staff are closely monitoring Jesse Bisiwu’s development as the teenage winger continues adapting to life at the Catalan club.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the 18-year-old Belgian is yet to make his competitive debut under head coach Hansi Flick, having spent most of his opening months with the club playing for Barça Atlètic.
Despite being registered as a first-team player on Barcelona’s official website, Bisiwu has not featured in any of Flick’s matchday squads this season.
The youngster arrived from Club Brugge in July 2026, signing a long-term contract until June 2031 in a deal reportedly worth €8.5 million.
Barcelona view the winger as an investment for the future and are keen to give him sufficient time to adapt before considering his introduction to senior competitive football.
Bisiwu made his first appearance in a Barcelona shirt during a pre-season friendly against Udinese on August 8, showcasing his pace and dribbling ability from the left flank.
However, his adaptation has not been entirely straightforward. An ankle injury during the Copa Catalunya final against CE Sabadell and initial registration delays related to visa paperwork disrupted his early progress.
Bisiwu gaining experience with Barcelona Atlètic
The Belgian winger has continued his development with Juliano Belletti’s reserve team, where he has made six league appearances and registered one assist.
He has also missed some fixtures after receiving international call-ups for Belgium’s Under-20 team.
Barcelona’s coaching staff remain attentive to his progress, with the club keen to ensure he develops at the right pace rather than rushing him into first-team football.
The youngster will now look to establish himself with Barça Atlètic while working towards earning an opportunity under Flick.
With his long-term future secured at the club, Bisiwu will hope his performances for the reserve side eventually open the door to a competitive debut for Barcelona’s senior team.
