Tottenham boss De Zerbi explains Omar Marmoush’s role ahead of Leeds United clash
Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi has highlighted the qualities of Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush ahead of Saturday’s Premier League encounter against Leeds United.
Spurs will take on Leeds in the 10th round of the 2026/27 Premier League campaign, with Marmoush hoping to make a greater impact after a difficult start to life at the North London club.
The Egyptian international joined Tottenham on loan from Manchester City during the summer transfer window but has managed just one goal since his arrival.
Speaking ahead of the encounter, De Zerbi discussed the differences between Marmoush and fellow striker Dominic Solanke, insisting that both players possess different qualities that can benefit the team.
“Each of them has his own style and different characteristics,” the Italian tactician said in comments published by Tottenham World.
“Marmoush can exploit spaces and can play in the playmaker or winger position. He tends to move deeper than players like Matthias Tel and Modric. Solanke is closer to the traditional striker model.”
“They can play together, they are both good and I hope they succeed in regaining their self-confidence. The problem they have is not related to their technical level or their readiness,” he added.
The Tottenham manager acknowledged that physical condition could be affecting their performances but remains convinced that goals and collective support will help restore their confidence.
“Perhaps their physical condition is not at its best at the moment, but confidence can be restored. If they can score goals and receive support from the whole team and from me as well, their confidence will certainly increase,” De Zerbi stressed.
Marmoush will now be hoping to translate his manager’s confidence into an improved performance against Leeds United as he looks to establish himself at Tottenham.
