Al Ahly sign Sporting’s Hager Amer on loan for African Women’s Club Championship

Al Ahly have completed the signing of Sporting player Hager Amer on loan as they strengthen their squad for the African Women’s Club Championship in December.

Amer had received two other offers in addition to Al Ahly’s proposal, but chose to return to the Cairo club. She did not want to face an Egyptian team during the competition and also wanted to relive her connection with Al Ahly’s supporters after appearing for the side in the previous edition.

Al Ahly will host this year’s tournament from 11 to 20 December, with 12 teams taking part.

The event was originally due to be staged at Sporting’s venue, but the Alexandria club later apologised and withdrew from its hosting commitments.

Amer was part of the Al Ahly team that won the 2025 African title, the first such success in the club’s history. Her return is the latest move by the holders as they seek to retain the trophy on home soil.

Before completing the deal for Amer, Al Ahly had already made two additions to their squad for the competition.

The club reached an agreement with French player Kadiatou Sissoko, who has previously played in the WNBA as well as the French and Australian leagues.

They also signed Senegalese-American player Sierra Dillard, who helped Sporting win the Arab Championship last month.

Al Ahly will attempt to win the African title for a second time and draw level with Sporting in the competition’s honours list.

For Amer, another victory with Al Ahly would bring her fourth African title of her career.
