Hamburger SV consider starting Terem Moffi and Patson Daka together against Borussia Monchengladbach
Hamburger SV are considering deploying Terem Moffi and Patson Daka together in attack for Friday’s Bundesliga encounter against Borussia Mönchengladbach as head coach Merlin Polzin looks to improve his team’s scoring record.
According to Bild, the Hamburg coaching staff are discussing the possibility of handing the two forwards their first joint start of the season at the Volksparkstadion.
HSV have scored just seven goals in their opening eight Bundesliga matches, prompting Polzin to consider changes to his attacking formation ahead of an important home fixture.
Moffi has shown encouraging signs in recent appearances, scoring in both the DFB-Pokal defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt and the subsequent Bundesliga meeting between the sides.
Daka, meanwhile, has recovered from a muscle tear and recently returned to action, making two substitute appearances to regain match fitness.
A potential partnership between the Nigerian and Zambian forwards could offer Hamburg greater attacking presence, with Albert Grønbaek potentially taking up a deeper midfield position.
However, no final decision has been made regarding the attacking combination.
Polzin believes Moffi still has room to improve
Despite his recent goals, Polzin believes Moffi has yet to reach his best level since joining Hamburg.
“Terem is certainly not at 100 per cent yet. But we are working hard on that,” the HSV coach explained.
The German manager acknowledged the striker’s ability to hold up the ball and his presence inside the penalty area, qualities he believes will become increasingly important to Hamburg’s attacking play.
“As a striker, you need goals to regain your confidence in your game,” Polzin added.
The coach remains convinced that Moffi has several important attributes that can help the team become more effective in front of goal.
