Harry Kane has ended speculation over a possible return to the Premier League by signing a new contract with Bayern Munich that runs until 2029.
The England captain has been rewarded for his outstanding performances since joining the German club, with reports describing the agreement as the most lucrative contract in Bayern Munich’s history. The deal could also make Kane the highest-paid player in Europe.
“I feel at home at FC Bayern: I love the club, the fans, the city of Munich – we have a fantastic team and a fantastic coach in Vincent Kompany,” Kane said.
“It makes me very proud to be part of this club. My whole family is very happy here, I wanted to stay, I’m looking forward to the future and want to win many more titles with this great club.”
Kane’s decision follows a remarkable season in which he scored 73 goals for club and country. He helped Bayern Munich win the Bundesliga and German Cup and became the first Englishman in 25 years to win the Ballon d’Or.
Bayern sporting director Max Eberl said Kane’s decision to remain at the club demonstrated the scale of their ambitions.
“This key contract extension gives us planning security. It sends a signal that the biggest goals are possible at FC Bayern. Players like Harry Kane give a team unique opportunities,” Eberl said.
“We are very pleased that he will continue to be a defining figure who helps determine the direction here, and with whom we can further shape our squad in the future.”
The 33-year-old has scored 102 goals in 102 appearances for Bayern Munich and has finished as the Bundesliga’s leading scorer in each of his three seasons at the club.
He has also won the European Golden Shoe twice.
Kane had been linked with a move back to the Premier League, where he is pursuing Alan Shearer’s record of 260 goals. He remains 47 goals short of that total, but the new agreement indicates that his immediate focus is on continuing his career in Germany.
His next major objective will be to help Bayern Munich win back the Champions League, a competition they last won in 2020.
