Trey Nyoni scores first senior goal for Liverpool in Champions League defeat to Fenerbahce

Liverpool youngster Trey Nyoni celebrated a significant career milestone after scoring his first senior goal for the club in Wednesday’s 3-2 Champions League defeat to Fenerbahce in Istanbul.

The 19-year-old midfielder opened the scoring in the 25th minute with an excellent volley, giving Andoni Iraola’s side an early advantage at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium.

Nyoni capitalised on a loose ball following a Liverpool attacking move, producing a first-time effort that took a slight deflection before beating Fenerbahce goalkeeper Ederson.

However, his memorable moment was overshadowed as the Turkish side fought back to secure victory through goals from Mason Greenwood, Archie Brown and Vedat Muriqi.

Alexander Isak scored Liverpool’s other goal in the 69th minute, but the Reds were unable to protect their advantage.

Nyoni, a product of Liverpool’s academy, made his senior debut in February 2024 and has continued to progress under Iraola.

The Fenerbahce encounter marked his 32nd appearance for Liverpool’s first team, with the teenager also having one assist to his name.

His maiden senior goal was another important milestone in his development, despite Liverpool suffering their first defeat of this season’s Champions League campaign.
