Aden McCarthy sent off as Viking suffer UEFA Champions League defeat

Bafana Bafana defender Aden McCarthy was shown a red card as Viking were beaten 4-1 at home by Viking in the UEFA Champions League.

McCarthy was dismissed in the 78th minute after a VAR review, ending his fourth successive start in the competition.

The 22-year-old had previously been named in the starting line-up against Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund and Slavia Prague.

It was McCarthy’s second booking of the tournament. His first came against Borussia Dortmund, when he also scored.

Elsewhere, fellow Bafana youngster Shandre Campbell returned from suspension after serving a red-card ban, but was unable to prevent Kortrijk from losing 3-1 away to KV Mechelen.

Campbell played for 69 minutes in the match.
