‘Who does Dumfries play for?’ – Aboutrika targets Real Madrid’s defending

Mohamed Aboutrika criticised Real Madrid’s performance and poked fun at their defending after the first half of their UEFA Champions League league-phase match against AEK Athens.

AEK Athens took the lead in the 12th minute through Abu Bakari Koita, before Jude Bellingham equalised for Real Madrid in the 32nd minute.

Koita created the opening goal with an impressive piece of skill against Marc Cucurella in a tight area inside the penalty box, beating him before finishing into the net.

Speaking during his half-time analysis on beIN Sports, Aboutrika said: “Cucurella only needs Yamal, that’s all,” before laughing. “But he is not pressing here.”

The former Al Ahly and Egypt forward then accused Real Madrid’s players of approaching the match with a lack of seriousness.

“Real Madrid’s players started the game with too much showboating and obvious carelessness,” he said. “They gave a very weak performance during the first 30 minutes.”

Aboutrika also appeared puzzled by the identity of one of AEK Athens’ players, asking: “Who does Dumfries play for? I do not know whether he plays for Real Madrid or AEK.”

He reserved his strongest criticism for Real Madrid’s defenders, using a sarcastic description of the ease with which they had been beaten by AEK Athens’ attackers.

“Real Madrid’s players are being dribbled past by radio,” Aboutrika said. “Hello, come over so I can dribble past you. They are being beaten far too easily.”
