Loic Bade returns to Bayer Leverkusen squad for Marseille clash after injury recovery
Bayer Leverkusen have received a major boost ahead of Thursday’s Europa League encounter against Olympique Marseille, with defender Loic Bade declared fit to return.
The 26-year-old French centre-back has recovered from a concussion that forced him to miss recent action and will be available for the meeting at the BayArena.
Badé sustained the injury during Leverkusen’s 3-0 Bundesliga defeat against TSG Hoffenheim on October 25, following a heavy collision with Hoffenheim forward Max Moerstedt.
The defender was left temporarily unconscious and required lengthy medical attention before being carried off the pitch.
However, his recovery has progressed positively, allowing him to resume full team training ahead of the European fixture.
Speaking at Wednesday’s press conference, head coach Carles Martínez confirmed that Badé would be included in the matchday squad.
“He will be in the squad because he is feeling well again and training normally,” Martínez announced.
Badé’s return represents an important boost for Leverkusen, particularly after his absence created additional challenges for the defensive department.
The Frenchman is expected to provide another option at centre-back as the Bundesliga side prepare to face a Marseille team that has won its last four Ligue 1 matches.
Leverkusen will host the French club on Thursday, November 5, with kick-off scheduled for 21:00 CET.
His return also offers Martínez greater defensive flexibility as the Werkself look to secure an important victory in the Europa League.
