Relebohile Mofokeng attracts interest from LOSC Lille and Bayer 04 Leverkusen

Former Orlando Pirates winger Relebohile Mofokeng has caught the attention of Ligue 1 club LOSC Lille and Bundesliga side Bayer 04 Leverkusen after making an impressive start to life with Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.

The Bafana international has scored five goals and provided four assists in 15 appearances since moving from Orlando Pirates to the Belgian club.

Mofokeng also made an immediate impact in the Super Cup, scoring the decisive fifth penalty as Royale Union Saint-Gilloise defeated Club Brugge to lift the trophy.

His domestic form has continued in the Jupiler Pro League, where he has scored four goals and created two more in nine matches. He has also contributed one goal and one assist in three UEFA Europa League appearances.

According to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, LOSC Lille are monitoring Mofokeng’s progress as the 20-year-old settles into European football.

LOSC Lille are not the only club impressed by the winger’s performances. Bundesliga giants Bayer 04 Leverkusen are also following him and “appreciate his excellent start to the season and are also monitoring his progress with Union SG”.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen already have an established relationship with Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, having signed Nigerian striker Victor Boniface from the Belgian side.

Mofokeng and Royale Union Saint-Gilloise return to action on Thursday, when they host Spanish club Celta Vigo in the UEFA Europa League.

The Belgian side began their European campaign with two wins and one draw. They are also second in the domestic league, having recorded eight victories and two draws.

Royale Union Saint-Gilloise trail leaders Club Brugge by one point.
