Kaizer Chiefs announce signing of Bafana Bafana winger Elias Mokwana on free transfer
Kaizer Chiefs have officially confirmed the signing of South African international winger Elias Mokwana, who joins the Soweto giants on a free transfer after ending his spell with Tunisian club Espérance Sportive de Tunis.
The Amakhosi announced the acquisition through their official media channels, confirming that the 27-year-old attacker has committed his future to the club as they look to strengthen their attacking department ahead of the ongoing South African Premier Soccer League campaign.
Mokwana became a free agent after prematurely terminating his contract with Espérance, paving the way for his return to South African football.
The winger reportedly attracted interest from several foreign clubs but opted to return to his homeland, with Kaizer Chiefs securing his services without paying a transfer fee.
His arrival is expected to provide additional attacking quality for the Soweto-based outfit, with the club’s technical team confident that his creativity, ability to press opponents and eye for goal will strengthen their options in the final third.
Mokwana has already completed his medical examination and begun training with his new teammates as he prepares to embark on a fresh chapter in his career.
The former Sekhukhune United winger arrives at Naturena with valuable international and overseas experience, having previously represented South Africa’s senior national team, Bafana Bafana.
Last season, he spent time on loan at Saudi Pro League side Al-Hazem, where he found the back of the net four times during his spell in the competition.
His performances abroad further enhanced his reputation, while his continued involvement with Bafana Bafana has underlined his importance to South African football.
Kaizer Chiefs will be hoping Mokwana can quickly settle into the squad and translate his experience into consistent performances as they seek to improve their attacking output and compete for honours this season.
The signing also represents an important addition to the club’s squad depth, with the winger capable of operating in different attacking positions.
Mokwana’s return to South Africa marks another opportunity to establish himself at one of the country’s biggest clubs after his spells in Tunisia and Saudi Arabia.
