Messi shares condolences after death of Tenerife player Jesus de Miguel

Lionel Messi has expressed his sorrow following the death of Tenerife player Jesus de Miguel at the age of nearly 30.

The Inter Miami forward and former Barcelona captain posted a message on Instagram after Tenerife confirmed the news on Tuesday morning.

“There are no words to describe the depth of this sadness,” Messi wrote. “My deepest condolences and sincerest sympathies. I wish strength and patience to all his family and friends. Rest in peace.”

Tenerife announced the player’s death at 08:00 on Tuesday, prompting an outpouring of grief from the club, its supporters and the wider football community.

The Spanish club said: “We are broken with pain. We are speechless from the shock and cannot believe that this is real.”

Tenerife added: “There are no words of comfort, and nothing that can ease this feeling filled with sadness. We stand alongside his grieving family and loved ones, and alongside everyone in the Tenerife family who are mourning this cruel ending today.”
