Borussia Dortmund v Real Betis: Serhou Guirassy tipped to score in Champions League clash
Borussia Dortmund host Real Betis at BVB Stadion on Wednesday in an intriguing Champions League meeting between two teams separated by three points in the league phase.
Dortmund are 13th with six points from three matches, while Real Betis sit fifth on nine points. The German side began with a 3-2 home win against Villarreal, lost 1-0 to Bodø/Glimt and responded by beating Sabah 2-1.
Niko Kovac’s side are unbeaten in five matches and drew 2-2 with Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga on Saturday. Dortmund have won three of their past four games and have also won their last four European home matches against Spanish opposition.
This will be the clubs’ first meeting. Dortmund’s next fixtures are Bundesliga matches against Elversberg and Borussia Monchengladbach, followed by a Champions League trip to Arsenal at Emirates Stadium on 24 November.
Dortmund reached the Champions League knockout phase play-offs in 2025-26, where they were eliminated by Atalanta Bergamo, leaving room for improvement this season.
Real Betis arrive after a 2-1 La Liga victory over Malaga, a result which moved them up to fourth in Spain’s top flight. Manuel Pellegrini’s team have won all three of their Champions League matches, beating Lille 3-2, Porto 3-2 and Feyenoord 1-0.
The nine-point return places the Seville club fifth overall. Real Betis reached the Europa League quarter-finals in 2025-26, losing to Braga, and were beaten by Chelsea in the 2024-25 Europa Conference League final. Their last Champions League appearance was in 2005-06, when they went out in the group stage.
Team news and predicted line-ups
Dortmund will be without Kaua Prates because of a muscle problem, but otherwise have no reported fresh concerns. Serhou Guirassy has eight goals and two assists in 13 appearances this season and is expected to lead the attack.
Fabio Silva, with five goals and two assists in 13 matches, should also start, with Jobe Bellingham likely to operate in an attacking midfield role.
For Real Betis, Cucho Hernandez is out with a calf injury and Junior Firpo has a muscle problem. Isco, Marc Bartra and Abde Ezzalzouli have scored four goals each this season and are expected to feature, alongside Antony and Pablo Fornals. Troy Parrott, who has two goals in 11 appearances in 2026-27, should replace Hernandez.
Likely line-ups
Borussia Dortmund: Kobel; Gadou, Anton, Schlotterbeck; Ryerson, Veerman, Nmecha, Svensson; Bellingham; F. Silva, Guirassy.
Real Betis: Valles; Bellerin, Bartra, Natan, F. Garcia; Fornals, Roca; Antony, Isco, Ezzalzouli; Parrott.
Dortmund are priced at 1.89 for Serhou Guirassy to score, while the combination of both teams scoring and Dortmund avoiding defeat is 1.71. Isco to record a goal or assist is priced at 2.95.
Real Betis’ perfect Champions League record deserves respect, but Dortmund’s home advantage should make the difference in a closely contested match.
