Nicolas Jackson set for Barcelona reunion after Villarreal breakthrough

Senegal international Nicolas Jackson is set to face Barcelona again, four years after making his breakthrough in Spanish football with Villarreal.

The Aston Villa striker’s development was significantly influenced by former Villarreal and current Villa manager Unai Emery, who played an important role in his early career.

According to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Jackson established himself at Villarreal before securing a move to Chelsea in 2023.

The 25-year-old scored 30 goals during his two-season spell at Stamford Bridge before moving to Bayern Munich, where he registered 11 goals.

Jackson subsequently joined Aston Villa in search of a fresh challenge and has already scored eight goals for the English Premier League side.

His performances have included an impressive brace against Manchester City, further underlining his ability to make an impact in important matches.

Blessed with pace, strength and an eye for exploiting spaces behind opposition defences, the Senegalese forward will offer a significant attacking threat against Barcelona.

The upcoming encounter will also provide Jackson with an opportunity to face familiar opposition from his formative years in Spanish football, having first made his name at Villarreal.
