Raja Casablanca sack Paco Jemez after disappointing start to season

Raja Casablanca have parted ways with Spanish coach Paco Jemez following a disappointing start to the 2026/27 season, with Sunday’s 2-0 defeat to RS Berkane proving to be his final match in charge.

The Moroccan giants confirmed the decision in a statement released on Monday, explaining that it followed an assessment of the team’s performances, results and overall progress.

The club’s sporting committee and management concluded that a change in technical leadership was necessary to inject fresh impetus into the team and help them achieve their objectives for the campaign.

Jemez’s departure brings an end to his brief spell in Casablanca, barely two months after he was appointed on August 31.

The 54-year-old arrived with considerable coaching experience, having previously managed several clubs, including Rayo Vallecano, Granada, Las Palmas and Mexican side Cruz Azul.

However, he struggled to make the desired impact at Raja, who have managed just one victory in their opening five league matches.

The Green Eagles have accumulated six points from five games, recording three draws and one defeat alongside their solitary win.

Their latest setback, a 2-0 loss to RS Berkane on Sunday, left them 13th in the Botola Pro standings and increased pressure on the Spanish tactician.

Jemez’s position had already come under scrutiny following a draw against Hassania Agadir.

According to Moroccan publication El Botola, the coach had requested another opportunity to turn around the team’s fortunes during a meeting with club officials.

However, Sunday’s defeat appears to have ended his chances of continuing in the role.

Following the loss, Jemez apologised to Raja supporters and accepted responsibility for the team’s disappointing performance.

At the post-match press conference, he admitted that his side had failed to meet expectations and indicated his willingness to respect whatever decision the club took regarding his future.

Raja must now turn their attention to a demanding schedule, beginning with Wednesday’s postponed league fixture against AS FAR.

The club will also be preparing for the CAF Confederation Cup group stage as they seek to recover from their disappointing domestic start and restore confidence among their supporters.
