Jude Bellingham scored his 50th goal for Real Madrid as they beat Racing Santander 3-0, marking a significant personal achievement during his fourth season with the Spanish club.
The England midfielder, who joined Real Madrid from Borussia Dortmund, reached the milestone in a convincing victory and said the moment carried particular importance because of what it represented for both himself and the team.
“It’s very special to reach 50 goals for Real Madrid. Not just for me and my dreams, but also for the team,” Bellingham told Real Madrid’s official media after the match.
He added that individual goalscoring records were secondary to the contribution made by the whole squad.
“It’s very important that all the players score goals and make a difference in matches,” he said.
“Sometimes it’ll be Mbappe, Vini Jr., Arda Guler or me, but the important thing is that everyone helps the team. That’s what matters most.”
Bellingham also singled out Yan Diomande after the youngster scored an impressive goal to put Real Madrid 3-0 ahead before half-time.
The midfielder said he had not expected Diomande to produce such a strike, although he was already aware of the player’s quality.
“It was an incredible goal. I didn’t know he could shoot like that, but he’s very good. The goal against Leipzig was brilliant too,” Bellingham said.
“He’s a special player and we’re very happy to have him in our squad.”
The result gave Real Madrid further momentum after their recent victory at Camp Nou against Barcelona. Bellingham was satisfied with the performance but said the squad had already moved on to the next challenges.
“We played really well. It was very important to win after our victory at the Camp Nou, so we’re very happy,” he said.
“Now the most important thing is the next match. The win against Barcelona was great and today’s was too, but now our focus is on the next match against Athens and then against Valencia.
“Nobody’s thinking any further ahead than that.”
Bellingham also praised Real Madrid’s defensive work after they kept a clean sheet, stressing that protecting the goal was a collective responsibility.
He said the manager regularly reminded the squad that every player had to contribute defensively, while recognising the particular significance of the performance for the defenders and goalkeepers Thibaut Courtois and Andriy Lunin.
“It’s something the manager always tells us. It’s down to the whole team, but I think it’s a bit more special and important for the defenders, Courtois or Lunin,” he said.
“It’s very important for them because it means they’re playing really well and very competitively.”
Real Madrid’s next fixture is a UEFA Champions League trip to AEK Athens on Wednesday, followed by a return to domestic action against Valencia.
