Ronald Araujo says the relentless pace of the Premier League was the biggest surprise after he joined Liverpool following several years in La Liga with Barcelona.
The Uruguay defender told Sky Sports that matches in England rarely offer players a chance to ease off, regardless of where the opposition sits in the table.
“Until the 90th minute of the game, you never stop running,” Araujo said.
His comments highlighted both the physical demands of the competition and the unpredictability of its results. Araujo suggested that a team’s position in the standings does not guarantee a comfortable match, with the intensity continuing throughout the contest.
The Liverpool defender also paid tribute to Luis Suarez, the former Barcelona striker who now plays for Inter Miami, for the support he provided during Araujo’s early days at Barcelona.
“He always tells me what he thinks and helps me a lot with that,” Araujo said.
He described Suarez’s frank advice as a sign of affection, adding that the former Liverpool forward had continued to offer guidance as his career developed.
Araujo also praised Uruguay team-mate Darwin Nunez, whom he regards as a close friend. He said Nunez had helped him settle in Liverpool and gain a better understanding of both the club and the city.
The comments were published in connection with Liverpool’s Premier League listing against Crystal Palace on 08 November 2026. The fixture details name Crystal Palace, the Premier League and Liverpool.
