Lamine Yamal’s father has revealed that “Yamal” is not the Barcelona forward’s family name, explaining that his son’s full family name is Nasraoui Ebana.
Mounir Nasraoui made the comments after Barcelona’s 6-1 victory over Deportivo Alaves in La Liga on Saturday, a match in which the 19-year-old continued to impress for the Catalan club.
Speaking during a live broadcast on social media, Nasraoui said: “I want to tell you something everyone knows… Lamine Yamal is not a family name. His family name is Nasraoui Ebana, so that you are aware of it and do not misunderstand me.”
The player’s father, who is known by the nickname “The Persistent”, regularly appears on social media to support his son and express his confidence in Yamal’s ability.
He posted another video on Saturday in which he said: “You will not reach the top as long as Lamine Yamal is on the pitch.”
Yamal is regarded as one of Barcelona’s leading players and one of the prominent figures in world football. He recently finished third in the Ballon d’Or rankings and has also previously won the World Cup, according to the source material.
He was born in July 2007 in the Barcelona area. His father is Mounir Nasraoui and his mother is Sheila Ebana, who is from Equatorial Guinea and worked as a waitress.
The listings accompanying the article include Anaitasuna in the Copa del Rey on 03 November 2026, with Deportivo Alaves and Barcelona also shown. An Aston Villa fixture is listed for the Champions League on the same date.
