Ivorian striker Salomon Kalou has encountered a setback in the form of a hamstring injury. The former Chelsea player’s availability for the return match of the CAN 2013 qualifiers against Senegal in Dakar is now in question. The injury to his left thigh, exacerbated during the first leg in Abidjan, has raised concerns about his participation.
Despite being instrumental in coach Sabri Lamouchi’s starting lineup for the Elephants’ 4-2 victory in Ivory Coast, Kalou’s injury casts doubt on his readiness for the upcoming crucial match. Notably, he contributed significantly by scoring the first goal against the Lions of Téranga.
As a consequence of this injury, Rudi Garcia, Kalou’s coach at Lille, has opted not to include him in the squad for the away fixture against Rennes in the advanced match of the 7th day of the French League 1. The decision reflects a cautious approach to allow Kalou sufficient time for recovery and rehabilitation.
