Eden Hazard’s absence from the Champions League match against Schalke 04 was attributed to an incident involving his passport. Contrary to initial speculations about a consequence of José Mourinho’s dissatisfaction with Chelsea’s performance against Newcastle, it was revealed that Hazard missed a crucial training session on Monday, two days before the Schalke game.
The Belgian midfielder had attended a match involving his former team in Lille on Sunday. However, during the return journey, Hazard reportedly lost his passport on the flight. In an attempt to retrieve it, he ended up missing the training session leading up to the Champions League clash. Consequently, Mourinho had to exclude him from the squad.
Mourinho commented on the situation, referring to Hazard as a “child” and acknowledging that mistakes happen. Despite the incident, it was stated that Hazard would be part of the squad for the upcoming league match against West Bromwich Albion, signaling a resolution to the matter.
