Kurt Zouma, who was sent off against Sochaux last weekend for a dangerous tackle, has received his punishment from the LFP disciplinary committee. The Saint-Etienne central defender will face a ten-match suspension for the action that caused a severe injury to Thomas Guerbert.
The disciplinary committee’s press release states, “After hearing the player Kurt Zouma, the Commission, considering the dangerousness of the action which caused a very serious injury to Thomas Guerbert, imposes a firm suspension of ten matches on Mr. Kurt Zouma.”
Zouma, a French international hopeful, was found guilty of a violent tackle on Thomas Guerbert of Sochaux, resulting in a fracture of his opponent’s tibia fibula during the 12th day of Ligue 1.
As a result of the suspension, Zouma will miss the upcoming derby against Lyon on Sunday and will only be eligible to return to competition with Saint-Etienne in January.
Thomas Guerbert, the Sochaux striker, underwent surgery the night following the match and is expected to be sidelined from the field for a period of four to six months.
