Jack Grealish was left out of Everton’s squad for their 3-1 Carabao Cup victory over Newcastle United after missing a training session without permission, with British media reports also detailing two consecutive late nights involving alcohol.
The 31-year-old England international began the first evening on 19 October, after attending the Pride of Britain Awards at Grosvenor House hotel in London. He later went to BAM Karaoke Box in Victoria, where he spent several hours with friends before leaving in the early hours.
The Sun reported that Grealish was in high spirits following the awards ceremony and joined a group of friends for drinks and karaoke. A source quoted by the newspaper said the group stayed late, adding that Grealish appeared to be enjoying the evening.
The following night, the Everton player was seen at The Mossy Well pub in Wilmslow, north-west England. He was accompanied by team-mates Jordan Pickford and Tyler Dibling, as well as his former Manchester City team-mate Kyle Walker.
According to the report, the group watched Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League match against Barcelona in a private room at the pub while consuming what was described as large quantities of drinks. One attendee said Grealish participated in the evening before later going to a bowling venue in Altrincham.
Everton decision
The reports about Grealish’s nights out have not been officially linked to his omission from the Newcastle fixture. The stated reason for the club’s action was his unauthorised absence from a training session.
Grealish had already missed Everton’s Premier League match against Arsenal the previous weekend while recovering from illness. He had been expected to return, but was not included in the squad to face Newcastle after Everton took disciplinary action.
Everton confirmed in an official statement that Grealish was unavailable because he had breached the club’s internal disciplinary rules.
Manager David Moyes, 63, supported the club’s decision but declined to provide further details.
“I’m not going to go into the details,” Moyes said. “The club made the decision and I support it. I don’t want to say anything else about it.”
