Al Ahly explain Emam Ashour’s absence from squad

Al Ahly have clarified that midfielder Emam Ashour’s recent absence from the squad is due to a technical decision by the coaching staff and not an injury.

The Egyptian giants issued a statement on Monday following questions over the midfielder’s continued omission, with his latest absence coming ahead of their league fixture against Al Mokawloon Al Arab.

“Emam Ashour is participating in training regularly and with full commitment,” the club said in a statement published on its official Facebook page.

Al Ahly added that his absence from recent matches was based on technical reasons.

A source at the club has also revealed that the midfielder is fully fit and has not been excluded from any training sessions during the period he has been left out of the matchday squad.

The source questioned suggestions that Ashour could be carrying an injury, pointing to his continued participation in full team training.

Meanwhile, Al Ahly football director Wael Gomaa confirmed that the decision to leave the midfielder out was purely technical and had nothing to do with his fitness.

The clarification puts to rest speculation surrounding Ashour’s fitness, although his continued absence from the squad raises questions about his current standing in the team’s plans.

It is yet to be seen if Ashour will return to the squad when Ahly host El Sekka El Hadid SC in the Round of 32 in the Egypt Cup.
