Barcelona became the first team in 86 years to score 46 goals in the opening 11 rounds of La Liga after thrashing Deportivo Alaves 6-1 at Spotify Camp Nou on Saturday.
The achievement matched Sevilla’s tally from the 1940-41 season, according to French statistics outlet Stats Foot.
Barcelona’s emphatic victory moved them to 30 points at the top of the La Liga table. They are two points clear of second-placed Atletico Madrid and six ahead of third-placed Real Madrid, who visit Racing Santander on Sunday in the same round of fixtures.
Raphinha and Lamine Yamal each scored twice, while Fermin Lopez and Anthony Gordon completed the scoring for the Catalan side.
The result was particularly important for Barcelona as they looked to recover from successive defeats by Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid. They lost 4-2 to Paris Saint-Germain before being beaten 2-1 by Real Madrid.
Barcelona now turn their attention to their next Champions League fixture, with Aston Villa due to visit on Tuesday for the competition’s fourth round.
