Al Hilal’s 2-0 victory over Al Fateh was overshadowed by the suspension of midfielder Ruben Neves for their next Saudi Pro League match against Al Ettifaq.
The Portugal international was booked in the 74th minute on Saturday, taking his league tally to four yellow cards this season. Under the competition’s disciplinary regulations, reaching that total brings an automatic one-match suspension.
Neves had played a central role in securing the points, scoring Al Hilal’s second goal from the penalty spot in the 91st minute. His late contribution underlined his importance to the win, but the booking turned into a setback for head coach Simone Inzaghi.
The midfielder had already been cautioned in matches against Al Khaleej, Al Ittihad and Al Qadsiah before receiving his fourth card against Al Fateh. His absence from the 13th-round meeting with Al Ettifaq is therefore confirmed at a time when Al Hilal are seeking to maintain their consistency and extend their positive run.
Neves’ role in controlling the tempo, linking the defence and attack and helping to construct moves presents Inzaghi with a tactical problem. The Italian must now choose a replacement capable of preserving the balance of the midfield without the Portuguese player’s influence.
Al Hilal took three points from the match and strengthened their position at the top of the Saudi Pro League, but they also lost one of their most influential players ahead of the next league test. The suspension means Inzaghi will have to reconsider his midfield options for the visit of Al Ettifaq.
Al Hilal are also listed to face Shabab Al Ahli Dubai in the AFC Champions League Elite on 03 November 2026.
Al Fateh’s listed Saudi Pro League fixture is against Al Riyadh on 06 November 2026, with the match scheduled to be played in Riyadh.
