VAR review the only flashpoint as Cordero Vega oversees Barcelona’s 6-1 victory

Cordero Vega’s refereeing performance in Barcelona’s 6-1 win over Deportivo Alaves has been rated 6.75 out of 10 by Archivo VAR, a website specialising in controversial officiating decisions.

The match, played at Spotify Camp Nou in the 11th round of La Liga, produced few incidents for the referee to manage as Barcelona secured a comfortable victory.

Archivo VAR said Cordero Vega delivered a consistent performance and was rarely required to intervene. The main exceptions came when he showed yellow cards for deliberately stopping counter-attacks or for committing fouls at particularly sensitive moments.

The referee also allowed the game to develop without intervening in minor physical challenges. That approach was helped by the fact that the outcome had effectively been settled during the first half.

The only significant review involving the Video Assistant Referee came in the second half, when officials checked the validity of Lamine Yamal’s goal.

The review confirmed that Yamal had been in an onside position, and the goal was allowed to stand. No other controversial incidents were recorded during the match.
